Artist Exhibitions:
I haven't painted in quite
some time. I am painting like
a maniac now. I liked to tell
people "I lost my Muse." I
don't know what was behind it.
I have exhibited at art shows
and also The Riverside
Gallery, Occoquan, Virginia.
Have also won some major ...

Artist Statement for Jay Anderson

Generally I paint in acrylic and oils on canvas but also do some other things such as scupture, pastels, drawings, etc. I like bright, saturated color and my paintings are generally balanced as far as having a rather equal amount of dark to light. They are generally balanced in colors too... I feel one color on one side of the canvas weighs
it down and needs a likewise same amount of the same color on the other side.

I discount art eduction. I think artists are born and cannot be made though learning. Though a formal education helps an artist to develop and can give one a good idea of processes, techniques, materials, etc. It can't turn a non-artist into an artist... only maybe an abstractionist. I feel totally abstract "work" is lazy, and a pretentious corruption of the visual arts. I say this though some of my artist freinds do an occasional abstract. I am also unable to participate in art critiques... I can't stomach saying anything negative to any specific artist about their work as I think it tears them down. It is almost like their work is THEM. It is like murdering them. I don't want to have a hand in that.
