Artist Statement for Jay Jones

I am heavily influenced by all that I see and experience. After deep contemplation, my interpretations of the world around me flow onto the canvas in a very personal, yet purposely distanced manner, represented abstractly through layers and colors.

Artistically, I have always been interested in the arrangement of space and the interaction of color through layering. The courtship with the canvas through action and reaction hold a certain fascination for me as colors and spatial elements fall into place. I paint with a wide variety of tools besides the brush and am always looking for new ways to broaden the application of paint on canvas.

Controlled abstraction and chosen method of madness dictate the construction of form and relationship of colors in my work. My paintings feed off of light and when displayed properly have the ability to submerse the viewer into an unknown arena of impossibly deep structural elements and color combinations.
