Artist Statement:
I first became interested in art as a means to escape the drudgery of my school days. As I doodled I made shapes and forms that I imagined, creating my own reality. I became absorbed with pushing the real world away with unexplainable images.
A reoccurring theme I use to make a connection between my inner reality and concrete reality is the human figure - the essence of a contemporary feminine form. The human body is a universal image. I use the human figure as a dialogue or language to express feelings in tones that occur in my personal experiences.
I am fascinated by writing and the way I can communicate very directly to the audience by the use of a few words. Seeing words and having to read them, enables the viewer to acknowledge the existence of the painting by drawing them in. I perceive on a more visual level and feel most comfortable expressing myself with images. But I’m intrigued by the impact of writing and all the implications and connections a limited amount of words can make. The life experiences of writers and visual artists in nurturing a creative spirit are similar.
