Artist Statement:
The name I paint under is a
tribute to Soren Kierkegaard,
the father of existentialism,
and a fellow Texan, Robert E.
Howard. Kierkegaard spoke out
against hypocrisy and
falseness in religion and
life, while also trying to
awaken the mind to an
understanding of the divine.
This was and is a noble, but
ironic endeavor. As futile as
this might sound, I find
myself trying to do the same.
Abraham Joshua Heschel
stated that, "There must be
something to be expressed, an
emotion, a vision, an end
which produces the need for
expressing it." He also wrote
that all creative thinking
comes from an encounter with
the unknown and only that
artist who has nothing to say
will boast about his own need
for self expression. Art is
more than the vanity and
superficial hype that is
usually found in the current
art world. ...
