Artist Statement for Jehan Chan Yee Hing

Jehan Chan Yee Hing has been painting and exhibiting for more than 30 years. Residing in Melaka, he now devotes all his time to painting.

Jehan experimented with watercolour collage on crinkled rice paper in the 80's. It was in the late 80's that he perfected the technique to enabled him to put together the Seascape Series that found an appreciative audience in Malaysia.

In 1992, Jehan started painting the carps that he reared in his family home. He captured their charm and grace with engaging artistry. And the visual poetry of a serene lotus pond has proved to be immensely popular. In this series, the carps, regarded as a symbol of prosperity, are eight or nine in number.
