Artist Statement for Louise Greyling

Statement as an artist:

Each painting carefully reflects life in different facets - visualising, without sacrifice, the unseen, untold messages between every stroke of the brush. Love for people carefully expressed in the eyes of different characters; faces portraying emotions behind forgotten history.

Never to be caught in a rut of monotonous colours, shapes or genres - variety in all aspects ensures freshness and surprise to the viewer. An added dimension of hovering between abstract and reality, the line in between - sometimes vague, or non-existent, the boundaries of life traversable, knowing that sadness coexists with joy, and that loss yields to birth and renewal.

For me, dark, sharp, dramatic colours inspire intrigue while down toned colours and lines reflect life in a more sincere manner. The careful fusion of pigment and the variety of topics in my paintings are important ways not only to authenticate my work, but to acknowledge and recognize the value of different people and their culture. A painting well done binds ethnic groups together. Its strength is revealed by the afflictions of humanity.

Because the world cannot be viewed in absolute terms, greater reality is depicted through everyday objects and themes. A vibrant rebellion is unleashed against the disposition of faces and figures, while curvaceous lines and intimate sensuality does not go unappreciated, or ignored. This enables the viewer to experience their unique perception of memory, mood and thought.

I hereby invite you to explore your personal concept of openness and acceptance.
