Jeniffer Stapher-Thomas :
Artist Statement
My Intent
My intent in creating art is
very simple and straight
forward. I want to make
objects that grace the lives
of people. I want my
paintings to be aesthetically
pleasing and look good in any
environment. I want to make
paintings that at first glance
are eye-catching, pretty when
examined and interesting when
pondered.
The images I paint are
inspired quite often by the
beautiful Chihuahuan desert
landscapes that I love dearly.
Some of my images are inspired
by my "internal landscape"; my
imagination, recollections,
dreams and some ideas that
start out as a play on words
or a story.
I want to smooth the rough
edges of the soul, soothe the
abrasions that life can
inflict and maybe even
entertain the eye and mind of
my viewers with new sights and
ideas.
My style is modern in
approach: my paintings are
large, linear, colorful and
designed with a formalist
approach. In other words, the
Principles of Design such as
balance, pattern, unity,
movement emphasis, harmony and
rhythm are meticulously
addressed in the design stage
of my multi-step process.
I think that my chief visual
language is the element of
