Artist Statement:
As a child in Canton, Ohio I collected rocks everywhere I went. My bedroom was full of rocks that I thought were unique. Now at fifty I see that one major difference is they are no longer in my bedroom, but have been moved into my studio. What I considered rocks as a child, have now found their way into fine pieces of gold and silver jewelry.
I have taught several hundred people how to fabricate jewelry and/or cut stones. The person most influential in my style of jewelry has been the late Charles Loloma from third mesa in the Hopi nation. Once I met him in 1976 and instantly fell in love with his style and culture. When I make a piece of jewelry, I feel that a part of me is going with the piece. Each piece has to be more unique and more perfect than the last. I particularly like clients who call me and say , "Ken, I need a ( piece of jewelry)", and allows me to create a piece without any limitations except for finances. My pieces have found their way to Europe, Central and South America and all over the United States. I currently...
