Artist Statement:
To evoke inspiration, I create
from what inspires me; in
turn, a sort of “domino
effect” occurs, as my audience
is brought into the study of
my work. Engaging them
interactively, I leave hidden
clues within the title or
context of the artwork itself.
Such clues, embedded in my
work through the style of
Realism or Trompe l’oeil,
cause the audience to be drawn
to the realistic and/or
photographic detail of the
work, and wonder how I
reproduce such elements with
mere pastels, oil paint, and
graphite. Illusion, via acute
visual perception, triggers an
examination of questions
surrounding reality, truth,
philosophy, nonexistence, and
potentiality of art and
artists. To carry on the
tradition and constant
transformation of fine art, I
produce new and innovative
works: my defense that fine
art is not dead, nor is it
exhausted; it has a life of
its own.

Joe Figlerski was born in
Kingston, Pennsylvania in
1978. In addition to being an
Edinboro University of
Pennsylvania Alumni, during
1998 he earned his A.A.S.
degree in Commercial
Arts/Computer Graphics from
Luzerne County Community
College, Nanticoke,
Pennsylvania. Joe trained
