Artist Statement:
Jim Howe was born in 1950 and grew up in the small town of Central City, Iowa. In 1971 he earned a degree in Graphic Arts from Kirkwood Community College and there continued with the study of Arts in 1973.
His eclectic career pursuits have included musician, journeyman carpenter and now artist.
Jim began playing music in 1966, performing professionally from 1976 until 1988. He has played the bass guitar for over 25 years, the majority of the time with the Wapsie River Band.
Wood became Jim's medium of choice in the winter of 1990 when, living in a cabin along the Wapsie River in Iowa, he took up carving seriously out of sheer boredom.
In Jim's own words, "I fell in love with wood art. With the help and inspiration of my good friends, I am working at something I love to do."
