Artist Statement:
MY JOURNEY TOWARDS SELF EXPRESSION AND ABSTRACTION.
I am searching for a way to express myself through art, trying to develop a way of working as an individual which is essentially my own way of seeing and doing. I enjoy drawing and painting the human figure, and have been striving for a way to freshen this classical form of expression.
To this end I have studied the work of many artists including Schiele and Klimt. By experimenting with the figure and a combination of media and techniques I hope to express the human condition and its interaction with the environment. I aim to push the boundaries of the portrait and life studies using abstraction to add movement, drama and life to a static pose. The figure in the landscape, or as landscape is also a re-occuring theme in my work, as is the enjoyment of the abstract sculptural qualities found in nature.
I like to go with the flow, exploiting the happy accident, developing and modifying ideas as I work. My colour palette can often be arbitrary, with dramatic colour being used to express mood and atmosphere....
