Artist Statement:
MY JOURNEY TOWARDS SELF EXPRESSION AND ABSTRACTION.
I am searching for a way to express myself through art, trying to develop a way of working as an individual which is essentially my own way of seeing and doing. I enjoy drawing and painting the human figure, and have been striving for a way to freshen this classical form of expression.
To this end I have studied the work of many artists including Schiele and Klimt. By experimenting with the figure and a combination of media and techniques I hope to express the human condition and its interaction with the environment. I aim to push the boundaries of the portrait and life studies using abstraction to add movement, drama and life to a static pose. The figure in the landscape, or as landscape is also a re-occuring theme in my work, as is the enjoyment of the abstract sculptural qualities found in nature.
I like to go with the flow, exploiting the happy accident, developing and modifying ideas as I work. My colour palette can often be arbitrary, with dramatic colour being used to express mood and atmosphere....

Huddersfield Art Society 112th Annual Exhibitionist - 2008.
Best Marks for portraiture must go to Jill Moynan with Kerry (mixed media), Kathleen (acrylic) and Monday's model (acrylic). All powerful and characterful pieces, with interesting backgrounds too.
A quote from David Hamond, a positive review from Huddersfield Examiner's art critic.
Huddersflield Gallery 2008 - Oil Painting 'Instead of Ducks' by Jill Moynan was voted by the visiting public as the best work on show.
Artby6 Exhibition (Jan-May 2008) at the North Light Gallery, Huddersfield.
Some powerful portraiture comes from Jill Moynan, who studied graphic design at Huddersfield University, and she uses novel techniques. Her self-portrait, It’s Rude To, for instance uses acrylic paint over a collage of contemporary magazines. Figure with Red Hair (acrylic) is in completely different idiom, very close to abstraction. Transpositions, completely abstract, uses multiple layers of coloured tissue paper, instead of paint, sealed with PVA.
A quote from the Huddersfield Examiner article by Sarah Bull, February 22nd 2008.
