Artist Statement:
When capturing the original photograph through the microscope I am particularly looking for compositions that imitate pattern and form, which we visualise in our daily lives. Boiling water and condensation on windows for instance, or ice and snow in winter. Images captured by astronomers through telescopes, or photography from planes and helicopters of coastlines and natural features found across the planet. Some of these same patterns and formations can be seen and imitated on slides viewed at the micro scale.
I consider my slide creation to be in a similar vein to when painters or sculptors mix and combine the raw materials they use to create sculptures and paintings. The combination of the raw materials and there subtle interactions, combining in the 'moment' that is ignited and burns in the artist's mind. When the two forces are in tune, the final artwork can feel like pure creation and exhilarates the creator.
The physical laws that govern and define the patterns and forms that exist all around us, create the reality which we interact with every second of. The subtle reverberations of this interaction cause ripples across the universe. Being able to appreciate the length and breadth of 'space-time' ...
