Artist Statement:
Artists’ statement
In terms of style, I am heavily influenced by Abstract Expressionism, Symbolism, DADA and Suprematism.
I use various media, dependent on the idea that I am trying to convey. Sometimes this takes the form of 3 dimensional assemblages, sometimes collage, also paint, charcoal and digital images.
I received an Associates Degree in Visual Communication from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, but my study of art history, and effort toward expanding my own work are a life-long process. So I guess you could consider me primarily Self -Taught, an Outsider Artist, or Auto Didactic.
I have always been fascinated by the common world, and finding the visual poetic value of them, as commentary on the spiritual. Things which most people pass everyday and fail to notice. A fire hydrant, the tail frame on a series of negatives. A forgotten house or dilapidated barn, or an elderly man walking alone.
Once as a boy of about 10, I went to work with my father who was a carpenter. Instead of being much help to him, I found and entire universe of odd shaped wood scraps and bent nails on the floor of the house where he was working.
