Artist Statement:
J. M. BRODRICK
Realism from a Romantic
The timeless beauty of old
growth forests or the simple
beauty of wetlands and fields,
Brodrick's paintings are
described as serene and
peaceful but can include both
drama and poetic tenderness
along with a unique softness
and graceful sense of beauty.
Using colors laid over each
other resulting in hues that
seem to glow from within.
Often playing one color off
the other in harmony much as a
composer would use
combinations of notes to form
a symphony.
"In composing art I take my
lead from Beethoven and
believe the artist should
control the flow of the
composition, which means
sometimes breaking the rules.
My goal as an artist is to
create a painting, which will
give pleasure without tiring
the intellect, and captivate
the viewer into the painting"
states Brodrick.
Painting professionally in the
acrylic medium since 1971, her
paintings are in numerous
private and corporate
collections in the United
States and Europe. In 2008 she
was commissioned for work to
be included in the new Sacred
Heart River Bend Medical
Center in Eugene Oregon.
