Artist Statement:
These "flame-painted" (tm) vessels are thrown on the wheel using fine grained white clay. Polished to the smoothness of a riverstone, the unglazed piece is fired nested in sawdust and straw and minerals. The effect of the burning materials is absorbed into the surface of the piece echoing the quiet and random beauty of nature.
Digital images from scanned objects are another aspect of my work. Shown here is one of these. You may see more, including objects from clay stones, things I grow, and ice cream ingredients on my own website: motzkin.com.
I love the adventure of exploring new ideas and art forms. My one of a kind mixed media assemblage work is also available for view on the site. All my work reflects a deep love of nature, an asian inspired aesthetic, and my personal search....
