| Hobbies / Interests |
Painting is the primary thing I do. I also sleep (sometime) and eat. I love traveling to the woods where I get a tremendous amount of inspiration. I love reading about art, talking about art, looking at other artwork, and enjoy taking classes or workshops. I am so fortunate that my hobbies and interests are my job. What a dream come true. |

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
Trees and the out of doors inspire me to attempt to capture the feeling I get when I see it. The Grand Canyon is so magnificient that I have not even imaged capturing beauty and enormity of this geological work of god.
The intense sadness and troubles of our world also inspire me. My ultiimate dream is to create a piece of art that will bring to people the highest and best feelings possible. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I always wanted to be involved in expressing what I perceived as beyond the comprehension of the average bear. My world was for the most part away from others thinking. I could feel a place more intensely than it appeared and I somehow wanted to bring this to other people so they could choose a brighter life. When the world has dreams filled maybe it will be a better place to live. I love to paint an find great joy in manuevering the paint so that it brings out the feelings in my imagination. |

JO ANN ALLEBACH ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always been looking at as well as seeing the world around me. I could see the color and light and somehow wanted to be able to let other people see how magnificent things were that were beyond what we had to contend with every day. How the light reflects off the leaves of a tree when the sun reaches through the sky, or the flower gathers its radiance or the glass sparkles is there to behold. How the colors of each season and luminescence elicits excitement.
My work can be considered impressionistic because it relies heavily on the values to be seen in sunlight and shadow for much of the impact even though some realism is brought in for intensity in some work. I use several photographs or plein aire or memories from traveling all across the country especially from Maine to Arizona to complete each painting. I first start with broad stokes to lay in the tonal values and composition that will eventually come through with more detailed strokes to indicate the light and shadow. Light and shadow are colors not merely blacks and whites. In order to create an inviting painting there needs to be distance and close up to work. A surprising number of viewing people express how the painting looks like a place they know; or at least a place they would like to go.
In a world where we are continually bombarded with images of war and famine and mayhem, the idea of simply making something beautiful with my hands that communicates that there is still pleasure in the world seems more and more important.
Biography
Ever since I was a toddler I knew I was different from other people. The world did not make sense to me. I had a desire to make art however my family did not think it to be a productive use of time so it has taken me until I am in my 50’s to really get going on this career. I was born into a career US Air Force family so I have lived all over the United States as a youth. As an adult I have lived in North Dakota, the last place my dad was stationed, for a few years, then moved to Florida, then Maine now have resided in Phoenix, Arizona for the past 11 years. I have worked in diverse jobs including law enforcement, human services, real estate, accounting, food and beverage service and even a fish canning place. I have been married and divorced 4 times. I graduated from high school a year early and finally earned a BS in Management and Organization from the University of Southern Maine in 1995. In my early 20’s I made my first of many attempts at suicide. After many years struggling with alcoholism, depression, suicide attempts, and anxiety I was told I had a major mental illness. A couple years later I decided to go to college for Graphic Design because I wanted to be constructive and have always loved art work and enjoyed making it when I could. I took some drawing and water color classes. Then about five years ago, I started with acrylics on canvas. I found that I loved working with acrylic paints as well as watercolor. I have now started using oil paint, too. Painting has given me my life. Art is my hobby, my relaxation, my fun and social interaction, my job. Art has saved my life. I have been blessed with the opportunity to do what I love. I found that my purpose is to give some pleasure to people just as making my art has given me such gratification. Without my art I would live in turmoil and despair. Everyday I am thankful to be able to paint. My ultimate goal is to have my paintings transmit the highest and best feelings possible to people. I have sold numerous paintings locally to private and corporate organizations. My paintings are alive all across the United States. Art has been a true blessing for me. I hope more people can realize how important art is to students. It really helps with cognitive
skills and solving problems. There is another important reason to support the arts and that is the positive effect on the economy and the natural improvement in areas that become arts districts. Now I take care of my mother after a stroke a year and a half ago. I go to a studio gallery to paint and am so fortunate to now a have a big apartment which is set up strictly for painting.
I hope you will find a painting that you would like to see near you not just in a gallery. If you find something that strikes you I would love to hear from you. My email is joanna5555@netscape.com or give me a call at 602-388-3169.
