Artist Statement for Joanna Borkowska

The creative process is a kind of collaborative effort in many dimensions, but the artist is responsible for the ultimate outcome. I work in a partnership with Nature in order to prepare a space in which I can establish contact with the essence of a form—from either the material world or the world of ideas. A painting gradually evolves from the mutual discovery and exploration between the artist and this form; it is a reflection of this dynamic. In order to transfer this dialog I mainly focus on color. Color, like sound, is coded information that transmits specific energy that is amplified by texture that directly influences the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. The resulting piece of art develops its own independent existence, becoming a new form with a potentially infinite number of interactions and interrelations with the viewer. The painting becomes a bridge between the parallel worlds that it opens. I am deeply interested in the impact that each piece of art has on its environment.
