Artist Statement:
Photographic Book (Working Title): "In Search of the Groove in the Machine"
Award winning photographer Joel Wateres is in production of a new book focusing on the magic of nightclubs. The purpose of this book will be an attempt to convey the belief that within the musical event lies a magic that has never before been captured. The medium will be photography and computer art. With a keen eye, a creative imagination and an ability to morph computer generated and manipulate artwork into photography, on some images, Wateres collaborates with costume designers RKM Production (Rubio and Kidd) and with airbrush artist CJay, ultimately transforming the magic of nightclubs into a photo essay book.
Every so often, when an evening transports the club-goer on a voyage into the beyond, a DJ hits on this magic. Club culture is beyond attending a club night after night; it includes lifestyle, philosophy, politics, social groups, etc. in an attempt to capture the groove. This book will focus on all the parts of the machine that makes a magical event occur.
The choice of samples of sounds have been carefully selected by these keen DJ ears for years, it would then stand to reason ...
