Artist Statement:
Fascinating new images are haunting my drawings as I observe our world through television and newspaper. Ancient languages are taking shape. Hate, love, power and poverty are manipulating beautifully written scripts into visual images represented in words and deeds. Arabic and Hebrew words of passion have reshaped the images of a child and his stone weapon standing before a soldier and his rifle. It's the Battle of the Gods, and I have a front row seat.
Now, I design Picto-Grams (word pictures) for my paintings, that are derived from Greek, Arabic and Hebrew alphabets, which are themselves evolved from Hieroglyphs (pre-alphabet word pictures), the root of all of today's Western written languages. The subject of my artwork is formed by my unbiased observations of the world around me. I only paint what I see. J. D. Margo - December 11, 2001
"101 Views of Jerusalem"
"101 Views of Jerusalem" is my new series, motivated by religious extremism in the west. Each work of art contains Picto-Grams made from the words for God in Arabic and Hebrew, and a symbol for the Christ in Greek.
