Artist Statement:
John Devaney's work has been exhibited in museums and galleries throughout the United States. He is the recipient of a National Endowment Regional Fellowship; of public art commissions at the University of Connecticut and Danehy Park, City of Cambridge. A ten-year retrospective of his work was held at Miami-Dade College, as well as national exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; the Brockton Triennial; and MIT's List Art Center. He is a past fellow of the MacDowell and Yaddo artist colonies.
John Devaney paints the passing parade of city and town life with caligraphic brushstrokes and an untamed imagination. In a manner one critic has called "Dickensian," Devaney fills his canvasses with the characteristic poses and gestures of the human comedy.
His work is represented at the South Wharf Gallery, Nantucket, MA; David Zapf Gallery, San Diego, CA and The Polonaise Art Gallery, Woodstock, VT....
