Artist Statement:
John Hyde Photography

The Photograph has always a
sense of memory tied into it.
Photo albums around the world
can attest to this. Out of the
perceived reality (and
convenience) it is the chosen
method of record. It is in
this form of reality it “bring
back those memories” of a
vacation, a wedding, college,
etc. The picture becomes the
trigger for individuals and
groups to relive their past.
In thinking about these paths
to the past and what they
might mean to the individuals
that carry them, I began to
look into my own; yet beyond
the major life defining
moments which tend to be the
easiest to recall. I found
from time to time that a lot
of memories I thought of were
nothing more than flashes of
unremarkable events that for
some reason are still with me.
Scattered and unconnected are
these images frozen in the
mind not by some digital or
plastic outside source, but
organically by some selecting
process within me. Everyone
seems to have the ability to
evoke these type of images
their past be it distant or
near.
These types of moments can not
reside in a photo album,
drawer, ...
