Artist Statement:
My sculpture is inviting and approachable. There will be an initial sense of novelty, interest, and wonder. This is to help provide a moment of relief from the over stimulation and bombardment from the many channels of interaction present today. Once engaged, additional layers of complexity may reveal themselves communicating multiple messages. The work brings the viewer into the middle of a story, the emotions are suggested, and the audience ends up providing the details as they fill in the missing pieces. In addition, there is always an element of an archetype present as an anchor for the subject being explored.
My focus is on figurative sculpture cast in different metals such as aluminum, bronze, iron, pewter, and zinc. The work benefits from the material’s sense of permanence. Also, I enjoy exploring and experimenting with innovative patinas to create active interesting surfaces.
