Artist Statement:
My work digresses through techniques, periods, genres and philosophies - a factual reality which I no longer resist. Currently I paint with a strong textiles element as well as persuing a quite separate photographic practice mainly towards installation.
I am indissoluably connected to the Brythonic culture of my origins in Cornwall but studio time in London allows an expansive painting practice which encompasses a wider frame of reference than my identity as an individual in the landscape. I look at objects and the metaphor, the opposite of reason and the value of non archived information. I like to think my work represents a votive aspect in the power of visual language, geometry in ritual and the special characteristic in a ceremonial/sacred object - no matter how humble its origins.
I assert the notion that the value of all art is through amellioration, even though, on this occasion I cannot spell the word correctly, my aim is sincere.
The placing of objects, the creating of new images and the adorning of existing objects fascinate me for reasons that are alchemical, theraputic and ultimately a power of reasoning of an otherwise vicarious world.
