Artist Statement:
My artwork is greatly
influenced by middlebrow art
such as comic books and pop
culture. Eye catching comic
style illustrations grab the
viewer's attention. This type
of work at first glance would
seem like just another shallow
low-grade art form. However,
the viewer must spend time
with this type of work to
decipher the smorgasbord of
visual imagery. The various
multitudes of images reflect a
symbolic commentary on our
culture, as well as an insight
into my subconscious. These
works appear to be planned out
and polished, but they are in
fact spontaneous automatic
drawings. I do not plan these
drawings in advance because
they would loose their
inviting and expressive
nature. Intent, expression,
balance, affect and finish
must be simultaneous....
