Artist Statement for Jordan Swain

“Color is like air, water, and chocolate, we need it to live! When I paint, color and the effects of light are what I think about most. My artwork rises out of my lifelong fascination with the visual, I have been an artist ever since I can remember.

I’ve been painting landscapes because they are endless in their variation, yet familiar.
People, and the moods they create, inspire my paintings, even if you don’t see any people in the actual painting. Most of my paintings are the environments that we as people live in, dream of, and alter.

I find that my paintings carry familiar colors, red being prevalent. I like red because it is strong, warm, and deep, and immediately evokes emotion. I work quickly to add energy to my art, and alternate between slow drying oils and fast drying acrylics.”
