Artist Statement for Joylene Johnson

|
Being able to express my view of my surroundings visually has been my cherished gift all my life. Increasingly, I find the coastal landscape has a mysterious quality possibly due to its constant changes, possibly because the sea has always held mystery and danger for humanity.
I respond to a combination of colors or the shapes of a landscape and I want to share my impressions with others. I paint from nature quickly to capture the light and mood before it changes. I enjoy the viewer's response to seeing a familiar contemporary scene re-created.
