When I became a visual artist I discovered that color and form are a language as poetic as any words, written or spoken. I believe that the greatness of a people or culture is reflected and preserved in their art and that art has the power to heal body, mind and soul. Through interpretive art pieces inspired by the folktales, and healing arts of many cultures I seek to evoke a healing experience in the viewer. Principally a water colorist and sumi-e (Japanese brush painting) artist, I have taken an expansive journey which began in 2001. Having soaked up inspiration from Monet, Cezanne, and Washu-Kai; photographers like Michael Seewald (spectacular landscapes!) and Taos photographer Geraint Smith; and literature such as the Tao Te Ching.... I often did not have a preconceived notion of an image when I began. I just showed up at the blank canvas, peered into the whiteness and an image began to emerge through my use of acrylics and brushes. Today, working in watercolor I scan the world for a beautiful place to walk along side the viewer. Landscapes, floral, animals, angels, people, poetry and places all play a part in my magical scheme to heal the planet and all who live here. Evidence of this scheme abounds in my specific use of color: Blue-The healing color of the kidney system; Red-The healing color of the heart system; Green-The healing color of the liver system; White-The healing color of the lung system; and Yellow-The healing color of the spleen system.
Each piece, created in the moment, is an invitation for the viewer to come along on a stroll that heals the soul and lasts a lifetime.

Enter the Stillness, change your life!
time out for some poetic relief:
POETRY OF DAYS excerpt:

-Paul Harvey Rests the Story-
***
Our big old radio boomed
Across the living room
Every sultry southern afternoon.
By quarter to three
It was my choice
To sit absorbed, in the kindly voice of Uncle Paul Harvey.
I never understood exactly what he said.
After "rest of the story"
I was sent to bed.
Today, an impact
Brought those memories back
When I heard the newsreader say,
This would be Paul Harvey's last, "Good day."

-Tornado Watchin-
***
Panoptic;
Out there
When it was dark yet,
Dew made everything wet.
Kaki clouds turn the sky a greeny-bruised yellow.
Down the cellar within,
We are warm, and dry as sin.
Tornado-watchin with the radio again.
Out there in the suddenly cool damp air,
Birds sing.
Here in The South
A sign of spring!

-Ireland-
***
Green and fair is she
White, and the bluest of blue gems,
Heather high as womens hems.
Solid at the core
Beneath the Glenarm shore.
Bashed by the sea
Home lives in a thoughtful place for me.
I wandered far as a lad,
Distant spaces had
A powerful mysterious allure.
Sure n Im on my own,
Distant hills I roam
But the shaded lanes Ive known
And rainy skies I flown,
Wild and weedy seed Ive sown
Only serve to be remindin
In dreams I long for Ireland!

-As Thoughts Toward Taos Turn-
***
I inhale the morning and recall
A sage-scented mountain path.
Through sacred ground, a reverent footfall
Brings me home at last.
With welcome song of birds and a shining, willowy creek
Where distant drums tug the heart and stir my dusty feet.
Yet today, I am far away.
Outside my window, seabirds bless the coming spring
And with the hush of sea upon the shore
I too, send one more
Prayer along the curve of the earth
As thoughts toward Taos turn.

-Coyote-
***
What is that laughing
Yipping, yapping and gaffing?
Oh that mournful calling
The sad continuous howling
Isnt it too soon for yotees
To be howling at the moon?
What are they thinking
Out there in the dark?
It seems an invitation
For us to do our part.
Have you heard them,
These golden creatures wild?
You may see
The odd streak of fur
Through the window
As you tuck in your child,
For Coyote often sleeps by day
And yips and hunts by night.
They call and yip and yipe
To the dark and light
Of the distant sky.
They beckon and chatter
And make you think
Something is the matter.
But some nights
The sound of laughing voices so hearty
You think Coyote is having a party!
