| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I didn't choose to be an artist. It chose me.
Because, I chose to pick up a paint brush and create has led me to become an artist.
It's a beautiful relationship!
I suppose you could say, we were destined to be. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Hi, I'm Julie Jensen aka JRay. I make that distinction because, I am newly married (21/2 years).
As such, my newer art is signed Jensen.
I started playing with the medium of watercolor in October, 1999. At that time, I had signed up for a non credit class at the local community college. However, I ended up locked in my house creatively driven to paint. I liken my initial painting experience to the Richard Dreyfuss character of the movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'. The scene where he was obsessed to build a mountain with dirt in his kitchen, and everyone around him thought he had lost it. I identify with that.
At this time, I was also recovering from the dis-ease of alcoholism, and I believe painting saved my spirit. I also believe my angels and guides came through to reach me through my painting; as, it was both a healing and spiritual experience.
'Fairy Tree' was my first painting. I had initially called it 'Conscious Contact', and it was just that!!!
'Calling Your Spirit Back' is my newest piece ( May, 2009).
I have since found the medium of acrylic, which is my current medium of choice, I also dabble in soft pastels, and prisma pencils.
I've gottten away from my heart (painting) in these last four years. The body of work you see is pretty much from 1999-2005.
Apart from painting, I also work full time as a Child Development Specialist.
I live along California's beautiful Central Coast with my husband Ray Jay and our two boxer dogs, Geraldine, and Joenah. |
