Artist Statement:
Biography
I teach art and design at Kentucky Wesleyan College as an Associate Professor of Art and Graphic Design. My educational background at Northern Illinois University was traditional and focused on studies in painting, drawing, intaglio and lithographic printmaking. My interests expanded into digital technologies during a design teaching assistantship at NIU. As a result of that experience I initiated many graphic design programs for colleges in northern Illinois and Indiana, and now western Kentucky. Because of my work with image manipulation programs I began to explore the artistic possibilities of the medium, including animation and video.
Artist Statement
The mixed media and digital fine art work I produce reflect and illustrate my interest in dissolving boundaries between what is considered “fine art” and design. I am also fascinated with the way images and text communicate both literally and through inference. Through the layering of images and text I create partially obscured, complex and shifting visuals, with an element of subliminal as well as mixed messaging that strongly refers to techniques used by mass media. My work is also illustrative of personal points of view and experiences as a woman, daughter, mother, teacher and artist.
