Artist Statement:
Katalin Papp is an award - winning artist who studied art both in the US and overseas. She received her Masters in Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 1996. She is an assistant professor at SUNY Farmingdale, also teaches at Queensborough community college, and in the US Virgin Islands. She has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally.
Katalin Papp’s philosophy is that the most important thing an artist needs to succeed is to enlarge the capacity to observe and translate the world.
Practice in drawing and painting encourages close observation, which unites hand and eye. Her approach relies on this meditative relationship which requires calmness and concentration. The deliberate patient and focused emphasis on how mind and spirit can be developed through the act of contemplative looking, and consequent seeing is the most flexible aesthetic equipment an art student and or artist of any age and level of achievement can have.

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I strated drawing and painting at an early age, both inspired and encouraged by my artist aunt. It started from there. I just like the feeling of creating art work. |

| Your Personal Biography |
Prof. Katalin Papp
is an award winning artist who received her Masters in Fine Arts degree from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. She is presently employed as an assistant professor at SUNY Farmingdale, where she teaches drawing and painting as well as at Queens Community College where she teaches drawing, painting and sculpture.
Her teaching philosophy includes the idea that outside of gaining technical skills, the fundamental thing an artist needs to succeed is to enlarge the capacity to observe and translate the world. It is imperative to find a balance between conceptual and critical thinking and technical and applied proficiency. Professor Papp teaches techniques first by giving demonstrations, and then by one-on-one guidance.
Her new venture the 'Arthollidays' painting and sailing in the Caribbean will start this coming winter. |
