Artist Statement for Kathi Bloom

|
Throughout the changing seasons I am inspired by the everyday scenes of life and nature . Summer on Cape Cod brings the added color of people and outdoor activities. Everywhere I go, I take a camera or sketchbook to capture ideas for art. I enjoy traveling to new locations near and far, always looking for people, places, and moments that speak to me of the clarity and beauty of our world.
After studying fine art at Bard College, Tufts, and The Boston Museum School, and graduating in 1979, I was a painter who spent the next twenty years working in commercial design and product devevlopment. During 1994-96 I studied computer arts at RISD to expand my creative medium.
My work is a combination of mediums and techniques, including traditional painting, drawing and photography. The pieces shown here are part of a larger collection of limited edition prints, each signed and numbered, all depicting nature, people and land/seascapes found on Cape Cod and environs.
The computer is a tool I work with to examine the dynamics between my own vision, and the areas where art and technology overlap. For an artist in the twenty-first century, that particular relationship is especially important in the communication of ideas and in the exploration of new ground for creativity.
