One of my favorite painters, Edwin Dickinson once said that "to re-imagine pathos the artist must find surrogates for old emotions, the better to conform what cannot be spoken openly with what can be laid bare publicly with personifications and allegories."
No descriptive language that can be "spoken openly" or representative image can fully express the sense of interconnectedness to all life that is possible to experience firsthand. It is an intangible state that is best expressed with archetypes and the essence of forms.
The spiral in my work serves as a portal into this multi-dimensional reality, drawing the viewer in to discern elusive images and ultimately incorporating their reflection in the resin and challenging their sense of separation. Continually winding and seeking wholeness, this ancient symbol becomes an exploration into potentiality, both individual and collective.
