Why I paint....
I paint because art is the one thing that I've found that helps me prevent the pain and frustration of severe and constant migraine headaches.
When I first began painting, my work was dark and dramatic - often negative. As a good friend and artist told me "You've got to paint out your demons before you paint the pretty stuff". So very true. As my pain relented and my quality of life improved, my work began to reflect the positive energy that I had found. Now I receive comments that speak of the tremendous energy people feel as they view my art. "The painter of Energy" - one person remarked, tongue-in-cheek. Those that connect with my art tell me that they believe they can feel what I felt as I painted - years after they placed my art in their homes and offices. I do believe that those that live with Art - whether as the painter, the collector, or simply the viewer - gain untold pleasure and comfort from living with pieces that "speak" to them. Being able to tap into the energy of Art - and the wonderful world of artists and those that appreciate art - has led to profound and welcome change. I hope to share this energy with many others as I continue as a full time professional artist.
If you know someone that suffers from migraines, please mention the possibility that art may help them too.

Artist Statment
I love color and the wonderful array of emotions that just a few pigments can bring to life. The colors, textures, and techniques that I use in my paintings most often come about as my curiosity runs loose while I experiment in my studio. I work purely on instinct and trust as I interact with the changes taking place on the canvas. Seldom is a painting completed without several “what ifs” and “why nots”. Many of my favorite results include the “happy accidents” that unexpectedly occur. I would like the viewer to have the same sense of excitement and wonder as they contemplate my finished work. While searching for a way to regain my health after years of near-constant migraine pain, I discovered that the more time I spent withart, the fewer headaches I had. Realizing the positive changes that art was having on my life, I soon decided to become a full-time working artist. That decision was the starting point to many synchronicities that occurred, all leading me to take Joseph Campbell’s advice and “follow my bliss” into the art world. With a degree in Mathematics and a career in computer programming, becoming an artist was not something I had ever considered. But as time goes by, I see that working abstractly, continually searching for the simplest form and finding truth are all fundamental elements in both Mathematics and Art. But Art can truly steal your heart.
