Artist Statement:
"I work in the tradition of earlier representational artists who painted their surroundings, inspired by nature. My painting style is derived from a synthesis of late 19th century Naturalism, Tonalism and Impressionsm. I am drawn to the landscape as a source of spirituality. Beauty manifests itself in subtle ways and what might seem commonplace to some is inspiring to me. My job is simply to transform the ordinary."...

| Your Personal Biography |
Mr. Burgess received his formal education in Georgia, USA. After college he began a career as a graphic artist/illustrator for a major publishing corporation in Atlanta, where he remained for 30 years. Though he did little painting during the early part of his corporate tenure, his interest in fine art was always present. He visited galleries, museums and continued to keep abreast of the fine art world. However, feeling unfulfilled over the years as an artist, he began painting again in the early 1990's and committed himself to becoming a serious painter. He began studying with some of the Country's top artists, attending classes and workshops in his spare time. In 2003 he left the corporate world to become a full time painter. The artist maintains a studio in the Blue Ridge Mountains of north Georgia.
Burgess' sensitive paintings are characterized by fluent, painterly brushwork, eye-catching composition, and expert draftsmanship. Using a warm jewelled palette, he weaves rich tapestries of color and light. His paintings evoke the beauty and serenity of the rural American landscape for which he has a deep affinity. His works are included in many private collections throughout the United States. |
