Artist Statement:
The Art of Kerry Garvey
My works, retell a discovery
of a 'spirit of place' - that
fleeting instant when place
becomes poetic, and we
experience harmony of light,
landscape, and atmosphere.
I paint to share the
experience of spirit of place
that I discover in my
explorations of natural places
and man-made spaces, that
surround me in Collingwood,
Ontario, Canada where I paint
full time.
I work predominantly with oil
painting, but explore both
digital and film photography,
and sculpt with wood, and
natural found materials.
My work explores the genres of
landscape, portraiture and
abstract impressionism.
I am drawn to the study of
art, aesthetics and art
history and my work is
executed with a clear
awareness of its place in the
historical reference of art.
Much of my current work
explores abstractionist
interpretations, and and the
impressionistic expression of
dramatic light and atmosphere.
