Artist Statement for Kevin Killen

My visual language is simple and pure; imaginative, fun, funky, individual and strong best (in my view) describes my work. Using creativity as the energy in my work I develop sculptures from my imagination; the process and found objects; allowing the work to evolve and spread into their own environment. I enjoy making forms out of scrap and found objects that other people have stopped using or don't need.

My practice is grounded in the hands-on skills of traditional sculpture and it's this characteristic, which provides my work accessible to a wide audience. The work has a positive energy that contributes to the environment which they are placed in. I believe that art work should respond to its environment, the people living and working there.
