Artist Statement:
Kim started experimenting with painting at an early age. She was drawn to incorporating plant material into paintings. This originated through a more careful inspection of some hydrangea petals she collected. Huge leaves, stalks, flowers and seeds add a distinction and nuance to her work. Her technique of adding and taking away of acrylic paint, the use of found objects, wax, glitter, and stitching, is necessary for the accumulation of layers of color and subsequent growth and depth of each piece. Her collection explores the emotions of current environmental issues and the sensitivity and introspectiveness the natural environment inspires.
