Artist Statement for Kiran Murdia

Over the years, I have been able to develop distinctive style of my own, mainly based on the inherent values of traditional Rajasthan painting. Through the subtle use of the multitier perspective and miniature like delineation, I evoke the tender effect of nostalgia for a visionary romantic place that is Udaipur, which has nurtured y psyche, as well as personality.
In my present series of works, departing from my early pretty canvases I have dwelt in tactile surfaces with confident strokes of intense and subtle oils, almost in bas-relief.
Using innumerable rollers and solvents I have overworked my surfaces, and then refined and edited them so the final outcome is quite different from the original concept, mirroring the shifts and changes in the quality of light, natural world and various psychological states. It is this unsettling technique that has rendered the human figure almost unreal, whereas the warmth of color can have an almost physical presence.
