Artist Statement:
Born on 7. August 1959 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
In the 80-s and 90-s Atanas Kolev participates in numerous exhibitions in Bulgaria. He settles in Austria, where he finds his new inspiration and develops as an artist.
He is a member of the Union of the professional artists in Austria.
Atanas Kolev is in endless pursuit of new ways of expressing himself in his paintings and sculptures through abstract or symbolic, and also surrealistic figures and shapes, But he has always been true to the realistic drawing and correct human anatomy from which he starts when he needs some abstract or surrealistic deformation through which to influence the mood of the audience. His art always stands on a basis of a solid concept with deep psychological and philosophical accent.
In his sculptures he successfully combines stainless steel with other metals, stone and wood, which he carves with equal skill. In his paintings he uses different known technics with oil and acryl on linen, but he also often mixes them with his own combinations with wood, metal and lacquer paints.
He never misses an opportunity to touch the audience with his space installations and action performances, using steel ropes, polyethylene ...
