|
There are three bodies (or styles) of work I make that are continually in process: Contemporary Icons, Digital Collage (photographic images without a camera), Objects and Photo in a Photo. The iconic series of double exposed color negatives are my perspectives and thoughts toward the use or replacement of Icons in our society. I have also chosen to interject, assemble, rearrange and combine ideas using images to raise questions, through an exchange of personal experience and introspection regarding societal values. I sometimes pick up random objects and hold them to be photographed. I sometimes make photographs with a post card image of an iconic nature held in my hand. I place selected found objects in certain and specific arrangements and photograph them. These exercises reveal new meaning and life on a level of absurdity that makes sense only to the ones who can see the value in things less widely circulated.

Living overseas for the first 20 years of my life and moving to the United States had a tremendous influence on my perceptions. I do not date my work. I believe in composting my ideas; I find inspiration and validity in reworking familiar themes. Waste matters. Art is about ideas. Art is a hammer not a mirror. Anything can be art. I choose to make statements on several levels of an atmospheric and ambient rhetorical quality, some specific and some vague. The images displayed are made on film and then scanned. The only manipulation is by Adobe Photoshop for balance of color, contrast and saturation to make the image look as it was photographed. I have a series of "work in progress" titled Contemporary Icons which some are shown here. I double expose film with images of Hollywood Icons and textures and scenes to reveal another side of Iconography. All my large format prints (30 x 40 - $1000 each) are box mounted and laminated for a clean and professional presentation. These 30 x 40 prints can also be purchased umounted and unlaminated for $850 each. The lamination provides protection from Ultra Violet rays and a luminous quality making for display under harsh direct light unnecessary. The seamless lamination eliminates the need for a frame and glass, which makes shipping easier and at a lower expense because they are lighter. The lamination also provides low maintenance of the piece as they can be cleaned with windex and a damp cotton cloth. All prints are ink jet prints on enhanced matte paper to give a rich texture and vibrant color. The ink is archival and pigmented for accuracy, permanence and superior quality. The Ambient Series in the 30 x 40 box mounted and laminated process is a limited edition of work and only five of each image will be reproduced and they sell for $10,000 each.
