Artist Statement:

As an artist from a family of artists, and having spent many years in tertiary institutions, and producing work independantly. I've had a few points of view regarding my work, and the creation of artwork generally.
Now, I know there's many who applaud the intellectualisation of creativity, and equally many who abhor the same.
I dont think I can present any point of view that hasnt been heard before relating to this topic, sure art is a form of self-expression. Sure artwork acts as a lens to the psyche, the consciousness, also as an emotional outlet, and focus, allowing artists greater clarity in self examination, and the development of self awareness.
I am confident all these themes have been many times traversed, if not in our time and place, then elswhere by others. If anything it can be argued we strive too much for perceived originality, for acclaimed uniqueness.
In so doing it might be argued that artists have been obliged to cast aside all else in persuance of new interpretations, new perspectives, to find supposed beauty in the most mundane, most unlikely places and situations.
