| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
Vasyl H. Krychevsky died in 1952.
The information in books and in his daughter´s memories, is large.
It seems that the artworks of the great Ukrainian poet, artist, Taras Schevchenko, an extraordinary Ukrainian figure, inspired him when he was a small child.
Also, Lew Zhemchuzhnikov, encouraged him to rescue the traditional Ukrainian architecture manifestations, considered by Russia as non-existent. He won in 1903 the contest for the project of the Land Administration of Poltava building. That was an extraordinary Modern piece of Architecture, which incorporated all type of expressions of Ukrainan folk art, stylized and "interwoven" in a fantastic example of what Ukraina really was able to show to the world.
The design had to be adapted to the exigences of the regime, and the building was erected not exactly as it was originally designed. Some ornaments were not done as originally designed, either. Nevertheless, the final result was extraordinary. |
