Artist Statement:
I am a self-taught/outsider visual artist and performance artist; I have a degree in art history and presently working on my Master degree in Library and Information Science , more specifically Preservation and Archival Studies. Then I will go on to earn a PhD. The artwork on my site are works-on-canvas I had created for a series titled "(Re)Interpreting the work of Pieter Bruegel the Elder and the Art of the Middle Ages for a Contemporary Society" during an artist fellowship residency I was a recipient of in Dresden, Germany. My artwork explores current socio-political issues and events dealing with race, local/national/international conflicts by juxtaposing historical and contemporary images/icons/symbols. I am presently working on two new painting series; the first is a continuation of my medieval series, and the second are a series (my version) of self portraits exploring the chaos and cacophony that fills my gray matter.
