Artist Statement:
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, I spent most of my younger years living in Arkansas. There, I began writing poetry and painting at a very young age using art as a means of expressing my emotions – happy, sad, forlorn, and joyous. Today, the art is becoming an oasis from my life’s strain. Everyone has daily stress to overcome such as work and the daily grind. Painting and, just recently, prayer has become my oasis. I have gone through many self-discoveries through painting and quiet time with God through this last year and a half.
I have found to not have fear or hold back while painting and to not have fear or hold back in daily life. (“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34) I have found I enjoy painting flowers the most for relaxation. I admire O’Keefe’s work. Her large flowers are a message to the viewers, and like O’Keefe, I hope for the viewer to take moments in their lives to look at things we normally pass by without a second glance. There is so much to see ...
