REVIEWS:
ARTisSPECTRUM, The Chelsea Perspective, Vol.20 November 2008
Bold gesture, powerful color, and sweeping movement characterize the dynamic abstract expressionist paintings of Laurie Vaughn. By synthesizing a broad range of global influences from the American Abstract Expressionist Action Painters, to the CoBrA Art Movement, Zen Calligraphy, and 19th century African textiles, Vaughn creates her own distinct aesthetic of Afro Expressionism, which reflects not only her cultural heritage and personal history, but her comprehensive art historical understanding and education. Her strong, gestural brushstrokes and aggressive color pallet evidence the influence of Robert Motherwell and Willem de Kooning
While Vaughn first captures the viewer’s attention with the sheer magnetic force of her imagery, her thematic content, thoroughly rooted in the pertinent issues facing contemporary society, makes her work intriguing and thought provoking.

Originally from New York City, Laurie Vaughn travels extensively and lived throughout the United States and in Ghana. Her international experiences continually shape her acclaimed works of art, which are exhibited around the world
A great hole in the experience we call art fills up with the work of Laurie Vaughn. In all times and along with all ages, artists disappear (sometimes by their hand, sometimes through accident) as they just approach the top of their powers, right as they can see a light break across the hard-edged crest. I can think of their names as I'm sure can you.
Their power, their energy to create that which comes at us in a startled flash, has been caught by this one Laurie Vaughn. Her color and texture form a planed mystery released only by her will to create. Step with us into what surely once could have been......and now has become the art of Laurie Vaughn.
