Artist Statement:
Lawrence Bachmann (Larry).....I was born in Ames, Iowa and spent the rest of my early years in Wisconsin. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a city full of the amazing works of Frank Lloyd Wright, due to the generosity of Sam Johnson (Johnson Wax Comp). Having a German heritage and being raised in the Midwest I was instilled with a strong work ethic. I designed houses from an early age, but channeled my efforts into a scientific career becoming a pharmacist, then a physician, and finally worked as a surgeon for 8 years. Life has its unseen forces, and unexpected moments. Through a course that I never could have imagined, my journey through life has brought me to the world of stained glass. Having left the field of Medicine and entering the field of Art, has been one of the few bastions of peace that I have found.
I have become an award winning photographer, designer, and now a stained glass artist. My left brain has become active again, designing. And my right brain, after all the years of practicing surgery, gave me the ability to cut glass even better (and sew up the occasional lacerations). It...
