Artist Statement for L. Chrystal Dmitrovic

Having returned to painting in acrylic, oil, watercolour and other media in 2003 (after a couple of decades of other creative pursuits), it was thrilling to rediscover the artist's adventure. The long dry spell, I soon found, had been the draped curtain before my subconscious, which all along was logging life experiences and impressions and preparing them into a kaleidoscope memory for future access.
My favourite painter is the great master Russian, Marc Chagall, who created and perhaps recreated a world of his memories on canvas and other supports and in a variety of media. He painted vivid dreams with, in his own words, "colours that whistle." While I know I'll never produce as prolifically or intrically such great works, I'm inspired by his methods and philosophies to paint my own dreams and stories. Art has become such a way of life for me that I have literally abandoned all previous hobbies to devote all my spare time to creating images from my soul, and perhaps sharing their beauty or abstract images with other hearts.
