Artist Statement for Robyn Rosen
Robyn Rosen is a self-trained artisan who comes from an artistic background in a family of sculptors, painters and musicians in Central New Jersey. At an early age, she entertained herself with crafts such as clay sculpture, but never considered herself and artist because she didn't draw or paint. In her early 20s she discovered a talent for jewelry design beginning with simple bead and chain necklaces and belly chains and has since gone on to learn a variety of new techniques including beading, wirework and medieval inspired chainmail (the art of weaving metal rings together to form intricate patterns.)
As one who has always loved to adorn herself with brilliant silver jewelry, it seems only natural that she would be compelled to design her own original line of stunning handcrafted jewelry. She is constantly seeking new knowledge that will allow her artwork to evolve even further. She has recently learned knitting and crochet and has experience in polymer clay sculpture, all methods which she plans to incorporate into future works.
Robyn's jewelry was featured in the Balance Between Worlds fashion show at Mother in NYC, and the La Bella Lucretia fashion show at Marion's in NYC. She participated in the Serpent's Circle fashion competition at Mother in NYC in 1999 and orchestrated a fashion show featuring her own handcrafted fashions and accessories for The House of ST. Eve in 2000. Her chainmail work was the focus of fashion features in Morbid Outlook online Magazine's April issue (cover story), and Gothic Beauty Magazine issue <6 (designer profile).
Robyn was selected to participate in a group exhibition at the Twin Lights Gallery in Highland Park, NJ in July 2003.She is currently a juried exhibiting member of online galleries E-Artfair, Good Hand Arts and Juried Online Arts Festival (JOLAF.)
Her work has sold at several craft shows, renaissance festivals, street fairs and conventions as well as galleries and specialty shops in the New York and New Jersey area. Various models, actresses and musicians have purchased her jewelry and fashions creations for use in promotional photographs, including Elizabeth Gracen, former Miss America and star of TV Series, Highlander: The Raven.
