I have always been captivated by nature. And history – the stories behind people and buildings, objects and animals – the story behind the very ground I stand on. As a child I would spend a great deal of time wandering through fields and cemeteries, feeling the sun on my back and hearing the lonely birdcalls and rustling of wind in the trees. I felt compelled now and then to stoop and place my hand on the ground or run it along the weathered face of a gravestone.
